Rock was well aware that old ladies and club girls weren’t allowed in club business, nor were the men supposed to talk about it to them. But he was also well aware that his old lady would keep anything he said to her between the two of them. He also had to tell her what happened after they got back to the clubhouse, because that part would affect her. He got to the part where they found the warehouse empty and she said:

“Did they call the police? To report her missing?”

“No, baby, they don’t call the police.” Ajei had been with the Skulls long enough to know that, but Rock could see the wheels turning in her head as she said:

“I know...but then what will they do? Do they have any other ideas about where he might have taken her?”

“Chicken was able to find out that Rico owns businesses in both Texas and Tennessee. He’s looking into finding out if he owns any houses or property in either state. Meanwhile, Becker is sending his nomads out to check out the businesses.”

“His nomads? I thought he only had one, that guy Bandit who is down in Mexico right now.”

“He does, until he patches me in tonight.”

She raised an eyebrow. “He’s doing it tonight...just so you can take off looking for this dangerous man who kidnapped a woman?”

Rock sighed. More and more often he wondered if this was going to work. Ajei was smart and savvy, but she still didn’t seem to understand that being part of an MC meant doing what he was told, when he was told to do it, regardless of the risk...or legality. He didn’t want to argue with her all the time about it and he wondered if it was worth it. “Baby, my job as a nomad is going to be going where they tell me, and doing what they tell me to do...you know that,” he said, softly.

“This club is no better than the Skulls,” she said.

Rock tried not to smile as he said, “You thought they would be more law-abiding...or...?”

She narrowed her pretty eyes at him. “You’re making fun of me again, but maybe I did. I was hoping, at least. I just can’t stand the thought of you getting hurt or going to prison...I don’t want to be separated from you again.”

Rock took her hand and looked into her eyes. “I know, baby. But we have two choices right now...leave, before I get that patch, or stay and do what we’re told to do. I need you to decide, Ajei, will you be able to handle this life?”

“Is this what you want, Rock? Do you think you’ll be happy, doing this?”

“I’ll be happy wherever I am with you, but the reason we decided on doing this was so that we could follow our dreams of traveling and meeting different people and seeing different places and cultures. If a life in a house with a man who goes to work every day 9-5 is what you want, then I’m willing to do that, for you.
